Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorders can become so severe that everyday life and relationships become very strained and impaired. There are many types of anxiety disorders with their own unique set of symptoms. Some of these disorders include panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social phobia (or social anxiety disorder), specific phobias, and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). OTs work to maintain the balance between meaningful engagement in leisure activities, activities of daily living, and social activities.

If your child or teenager has a frequent and persistent pattern of anger, irritability, arguing, defiance or vindictiveness toward you and other authority figures, they may have oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). These are emotional and behavioral symptoms that last at least six months.
